I was so pleased to meet SylviaX. albeit briefly, at the hydrotherapy suite at Torbay Hospital yesterday. We recognised each other from our photos on here. Does anyone else live in the South Devon area? It would be nice to meet up sometime for a coffee and a chat. I think I would find coping with RA so much harder if I wasn't in touch with people in the same boat. RA is by its nature an isolating disease and it really helps me to know other people who understand what I'm going through. Thank you everyone on here for all your support. I don't know where I'd be without it. Naomi, XXXXX

It was lovely to bump into Naomi - she looks just like her piccie and we had a brief chat in between our MDT appointments. We definitely should arrange for a get together somewhere a bit nicer than the hospital waiting room! And are there any other people based on South DEvon - it would be lovely to get a little group together?

I'd just seen the physiotherapist and had been booked into the next set of hydrotherapy group sessions. After the discussions on here about that, I'm really looking forward to it now - I hope it'll give me the boost I need to get back into regular classes. He said that I must practice the exercises he gave me last time and build up slowly, and of course my tai chi is good too. Then I saw the podiatrist and he gave me another set of insoles - I think they must be helping because my feet don't hurt at all these days. My toes may be a funny shape but as long as I stick to flat shoes they give me no trouble at all.

This support forum is brilliant for me too - like Naomi says "I don't know where I'd be without it. " - it's so reassuring to hear that lots of other people fret about the same things as I do, and together we come up with ideas and experiences and find a way to cope with RA's challenges. Right now I'm enjoying my life as much as I've ever done - RA has made me adapt but I'm stronger for all that!

Love and hugs - Sylvia xx

How wonderful you have both met up with each other and what a coincidence!!! Naomi and Sylvia, you should start a mini group, you are both such positive people who offer so much to others. I live in Devon but right the other side of East Devon almost on the Dorset border, about 30miles East from Exeter.

Naomi you are so right, this is such an isolating disease, I am really struggling to drive now because of all the damage in my hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders and it is impossible for me to use public transport. The NRAS is an absolute lifeline, and offers such amazing support and guidance. Cheers everyone...

Love
Rebecca

BigGrin nice that Naomi & Sylvia
Have finally met up!

Sorry, I'm not from Devon - or I'd love to meet with you.

Its a shame hospitals don't do a coffee meet up with other ra people.

I thought about joining nras - but two close ones are both nearly an hour drive away.

Rebecca, I'm unable to drive too because of RA. I have neuropathy in my hands and feet and restricted movement in my neck....and I don't think I'd be safe. I applied for a bus pass from the local council and that has been a great help, especially getting to the hospital which is a £10 taxi fare away. I also get help from Access to Work with the cost of taxis to and from work. I hope you're getting all the help you are entitled to with mobility. It sounds like your mobility problems are worse than mine so maybe you would get help from dla mobility component. Naomi, XXX

Hi Naomi

Thanks for you advice. I do get the DLA mobility and care component as my R.A is severe. I really wish I could use public transport but the bus stop is too far away and I wouldn't be able to get on or off without help. My husband says I need roller skates.....

Love Rebecca
